If you are thinking of your European vacation as a once in a lifetime affair, make it even better by not overdoing it. When I was traveling, it seems I would always come across people that seemed to be doing a 'whirlwind tour' of Europe. They would 'hit' London, Madrid, Paris, Venice and Rome, then go home exhausted. What's the point in that? Unless you have lots of time, stick to REALLY seeing just a country or two. Two days is plenty for most places, but Rome could very well take up a week! Read the travel books and try to find the off-beaten paths ... And while you are planning your vacation, remember to update your address book before you leave. Before you take everything you own when you go away, ask what amenities are already available - such as bicycles, beach chairs, towels, etc. Also, ask what might be available to rent nearby - from kayaks and ski equipment to hot air balloons. Many hotels/motels in Germany, France and Switzerland (even the more expensive ones) do not have tee and coffee making facilities in the rooms. You have to either buy your cuppa from the hotel bar - or a nearby shop. This can be expensive (especially tea in France). Take a portable water boiler (under $30). This will save you money and hassles looking for open cafes in the middle of the night! There are some bed and breakfasts that accept babies and very young children. Most don't. Usually the cut off age is 7+. A bed and breakfast is normally not.
If you are visiting a city which has a good waterway system, it is a good idea to explore the city on a local ferry. You slowly imbibe the city's culture, observe local people, and watch the panaroma gradually unfold - all this without making a big hole in your pocket. Automobile/Airline Adapters: There have been a few instances of airline power adapters not working with in-seat power sources. This can happen when an adapter is required to produce the fully rated 70 watts to fast charge the internal laptop battery but the in-seat power system is not designed to produce that much power. With an adapter efficiency of 90%, the 70-watt load tries to pull 78 watts from the in-seat power unit, and it safely shuts down. The safety circuits in the adapter also sense the overload and also safely shut down. Another exhaust product is germs. Because airplane tickets are so expensive, and because such effort is involved in making such a trip, people will fly sick. If your immune system is compromised in any way (HIV, chemotherapy, immunoglobulin deficiency), you may well want to wrap your face in a scarf or wear a surgical mask. If you are thinking of your European vacation as a once in a lifetime affair, make it even better by not.
When travelling in the north of Western Australia do NOT drive on any CLOSED road (dirt-gravel) as it will cost you dearly, about $200 per tyre!!! The rain, when it does rain, makes the roads almost impassable and very expensive to repair if fellow travellers try to traverse them. Distance is enormous up there and help can be a long wait. But it is worth seeing!!! The air that you breathe inside an airline cabin isn't nearly as good as what you will find most other places. The cabin is pressurized, since the air is so thin at altitude. However, they don't pressurize it to sea level; it is substantially weaker. (This is part of why air travel can be so draining; you can end up with mild altitude sickness!) Before you take everything you own when you go away, ask what amenities are already available - such as bicycles, beach chairs, towels, etc. Also, ask what might be available to rent nearby - from kayaks and.
